Throughout the Series[]
Season 2[]
Bad Mother[]
7 year-old Wayne lives in Gunbarrel, Colorado with his parents Vic McQueen and Lou Carmody. They return home with a new video game: 2K20. Wayne tells his father that he’s too old to play the game with him. Completely unaware of his mother’s past, Wayne asks who Charlie Manx is after seeing a news report of his death. He supposedly died in his hospital bed after spending the last 8 years in a coma. Wayne later calls Vic to inform her that Sam called. He has a bike for them, and Vic has to pick it up.
Wayne is picked up from school by his father after his mom forgets to pick him up. Lou confronts Vic and reminds her that she was supposed to pick Wayne up from school. He tells her that the other moms were there and asks if she’s coming to his game. She promises him she’ll be there.
The following morning, Wayne wakes up to find Vic in the kitchen preparing ice cream for breakfast. She tells him that they’re playing hooky today. Vic and Wayne play basketball outside the shop. Wayne then tells his mother how his father says that the Triumph reminds him of a sewing machine. Vic replies that Lou is a Harley guy. Wayne then asks about Charlie Manx. Vic tells him that Manx is a serial child abductor, and that’s why Vic’s told Wayne that he should never go anywhere with anyone who doesn't know the password: 1048 Fairbanks. The code to the Batcave. He asks if Manx took her, but it was in fact his biological father, Craig Harrison, who was taken. Vic tells Wayne that she'll never allow anything like that to happen to him.
The phone in the shop starts to ring, but only she can hear it. She cuts the cord and the ringing stops. The house phone then rings, followed by her cellphone, as the front screen appears as static. She cuts the cord to the house phone and throws her phone as well as Wayne’s cell phone into the oven and turns it on. As Wayne rushes into his room to hide, Vic grabs two miniature bottles of alcohol from under the kitchen sink and drinks. The ringing continues. She busts open Wayne’s door and answers the green toy dinosaur phone. She then leaves Wayne in the house alone with the oven on. By the time Vic returns, the house is up in flames and Wayne and Lou are nearby at an ambulance.
With their home burned down, they are forced to stay in a motel. Vic lies awake in bed throughout the night. She stuffs her pockets with alcohol from the mini-fridge and prepares to sneak away. Wayne catches her as she’s leaving. She tells him that he’s safer with his father. He accepts that she's leaving and tells her not to forget her jacket. It has armor to protect her. Vic tells Wayne that she loves him before leaving.
Good Father[]
Wayne goes to visit the Sleigh House, where unbeknownst to him, he runs into Charlie Manx. He tells Manx that his family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, and he thinks the ornaments on the tree are creepy. Wayne shares the stories he’s heard of Charlie Manx, who’s allegedly killed many children. Manx tells Wayne not to believe everything he hears. He looks into Wayne’s eyes and calls him by his first name: Bruce. Wayne replies that no one calls him that, though it is in fact his name. Manx then appears to recognize Wayne. He’s seen him before in a dream. Wayne then runs off as Manx continues to bleed through his shirt.
The Night Road[]
As Wayne goes out front to play basketball, Lou warns him against taking off on his bike, like he did yesterday. The lights begin to flicker outside of the garage as Bing pulls up to Carmody's Car Carma. Wayne informs his father that a customer has arrived as he plays basketball outside. Lou greets Bing, who claims that his bike isn’t working and is looking for assistance. Lou invites Bing inside his office to talk further.
Wayne faintly hears O Holy Night playing in the distance and goes to investigate. He follows the music to the Wraith, where he is approached by Manx. Wayne asks if he’s feeling better, as their first encounter ended with Wayne running away as Manx bled from his chest. Manx refers to him as Bruce Wayne McQueen, but Wayne corrects him in saying that he only goes by Wayne. Manx then pulls a candy cane from his ear and gifts it to him.
The doors of the Wraith open, revealing a back seat filled with toys and presents. Manx tells Wayne that when he was his age, all he wanted was magic. The magic of Christmas and making his problems disappear. He encourages Wayne to hop in. Before he does, Wayne asks Manx for the password, that being "1048 Fairbanks." When Manx replies that there aren’t any passwords in Christmasland, Wayne runs off into the woods, where he is recovered by Lou.
While Lou talks to the police, Wayne sits on the couch with the candy cane he got from Manx in hand. He places it in his pocket and continues watching TV. Later, Lou and Wayne are taken to Tabitha's. Vic arrives soon thereafter. Neither of whom are happy with her. He asks if she’s visiting or staying. Vic announces that she has come to stay.
The Lake House[]
Wayne wakes up to the sound of children singing Christmas carols outside of the house. He looks outside the window to see the children of Christmasland. They tell him to come play with them. As it turns out, Wayne is sleepwalking. Vic awakens to find Wayne humming O Holy Night by the window. She calls him, but he doesn’t answer. He instead opens the front door, where only he can see Charlie Manx. Vic tries to wake Wayne up, but he remains asleep. Manx welcomes him to Christmasland. He tells Wayne that unhappiness is against the law and only the most special of kids are allowed. Wayne can come if he does Manx one small favor. Wayne then suddenly wakes up. Vic tells him that he’s at aunt Maggie’s house and that he was just having a bad dream. In his hand, Wayne holds the candy cane that Manx previously gave him. He looks out the window again to see the moon smiling at him.
The following morning, Vic and Lou ask Wayne about his sleepwalking. However, he’s more concerned about when they’re going home. Vic tells him that they’re about to leave for his grandpa’s lake house. Lou compares it to the bat cave. Vic then tells Wayne that they can’t mention Manx to grandpa or anyone else they meet. Wayne explains that he already knows. Lou then gifts Wayne a brand new phone and tells him to get dressed.
Vic, Lou, Wayne, and Maggie arrive at Chris’ lake house. He greets Maggie and Lou, meeting them both for the first time. Lastly, he meets Wayne, glad to have finally met him. Wayne remarks that the house looks creepy. Chris turns his attention to the lake and tells Wayne that Vic liked to fish when she was his age and asks if he would like to try. While no one is looking, Wayne pulls the candy cane from his pocket and looks up at the tree, noticing the Christmas ornaments hanging.
Wayne, Lou, and Chris go fishing in the lake. Wayne is reluctant to stab the worm to use as bait and so Chris offers an alternative.
Wayne is sleepwalking again. Vic approaches him, who while still asleep, whispers that "sometimes mom doesn’t like us." Lou takes Wayne back to bed, and Vic walks away disheartened.
Vic takes off her shoes and joins Lou and Wayne in the lake, splashing them both with water and enjoying time together as a family. Later that night, Wayne her that he wants to find some kids to play with tomorrow. Vic explains that they’re in hiding and tells him to get ready for bed.
Wayne sleepwalks towards the lake. He is talking to Manx, who is filling his head with the joys of Christmasland. Wayne is tired of hiding and his parents being messed up. He wants to go home. Manx tells him that Christmasland can be his home. He’ll be happy and loved, more than he ever was with his parents. All he asks is that Wayne tell him where they are hiding. As Vic recovers Wayne and takes him back inside, he reveals to Manx that he’s at Lake Passamaquoddy. Wayne then starts humming again, causing Vic to notice the candy cane in his hand.
Vic tucks Wayne into bed. She asks him about the candy cane, but he is reluctant to reveal where he got it from. Vic promises that she won’t get mad, and so Wayne admits that he got it from Manx. Vic warns him against taking anything from Charlie Manx, explaining that he’s a bad man. However, Wayne argues in Charlie’s favor, claiming that Vic is a liar who makes Lou sad. Wayne simply wants a regular life with a regular mom. Vic apologizes for scaring him. She tells Wayne that he is the best kid, deserving of the best mom, and she’s going to try her best to be that mom. She assures Wayne that he can tell her anything and pinky swears to never get mad at him again.
As Lou stands by the window with the detonator, Wayne wakes up from his sleep and reveals that he told Charlie Manx where to find them.
Bruce Wayne McQueen[]
After informing Vic that Wayne has been talking to Manx and informing him of their location, Lou assures Wayne that he did nothing wrong and that he’ll protect Wayne until Vic arrives.
Chris tells Lou to stay inside with Wayne as he goes to tell the agents that they’ve been compromised. Lou tries to convince Chris to stay inside with them. ANFO is their only line of defense against Bing and Manx, who they reveal is still alive despite the reports of his death. Wayne insists that Manx is real, but Chris writes it off as a bad dream even as Lou explains that Manx is very much alive and coming to take Wayne. He then explains that the only way to stop Manx is by blowing up the Wraith. Still, Chris isn’t convinced and exits the house.
Outside, as Chris is approaching the agents, Ash and Chen open fire, shooting Chris in the leg, forcing him to take cover behind his truck. Lou tells Wayne to get down, as he barricades the door, but Wayne watches from the window instead. Lou joins Wayne by the window and assures him that they’ll be okay.
Lou and Wayne start to hear a hissing sound coming from within the house. Wayne remarks that it smells like cookies and giggles. However, Lou realizes that gas is being pumped inside the house and tells Wayne to hold his breath as they exit. However, they don’t get far, as Bing ambushes Lou, knocking him out with the gingerbread smoke. Wayne runs towards the road with Bing chasing after him. He grabs Wayne by his arm and lifts him into the air. Wayne bites Bing, who screams in pain and tells Wayne that "your ass is grass." Manx calls out to Bing and demands that he bring Wayne to him. Wayne reluctantly enters the Wraith, and Manx tells him that his wildest dreams are about to come true. Suddenly, Vic arrives and screams out "Manx! Let him go."
Manx gets inside the Wraith and runs Vic down. Wayne watches as this unfolds. He bangs on the window and calls out to his mom, who lays hurt on the ground. Bing warns Wayne that "boys who make filthy noise get no toys," and "boys who yelp get no help." Manx tells Bing to put Wayne down for a nap. He doesn’t want the boy to see what comes next. Bing asks to come with, as he too wishes to have fun with Vic. Manx orders Bing to stay in the car and take care of Wayne. And then, he’ll have all the fun he can handle when they get to Christmasland.
Manx exits the Wraith, and Wayne continues to beat and bang on the window. Bing tells Wayne to quiet down or else he’ll shoot him. He then threatens to bite Wayne back. Adding that Wayne has the pretty face of a girl, but that it wouldn’t be so pretty if he bit Wayne’s cheek off and spat it out on the floor. Wayne retorts that Manx would be mad if Bing hurt him. Bing remarks that Wayne is nothing like Mike. Bing allows Wayne to watch as Manx beats Vic over the back with the hammer. He adds that when Manx is done, he’ll have his turn with Vic. Bing then puts Wayne to sleep. During which times, he dreams of Halloween and the 4th of July with his parents.
Wayne awakens to the sound of Vic trying to break the window with Manx’s hammer. He warns her to run, as Bing starts to shoot. She tells him that she loves him and that she'll come back for him before jumping into the lake. Wayne tries to crawl into the front seat, but there appears to be a portal preventing him from doing so. Each time he tries, he ends up back in the backseat. He also tries to text his father but with no luck. Wayne starts to panic. Fortunately, Lou arrives with an axe. He strikes the back window but doesn’t leave so much as a scratch. However, he does manage to crack the driver side window before Manx sneaks up from behind and strikes Lou over the head with the hammer. He then smashes Lou’s head into the window repeatedly. Manx tells Wayne that Lou will be coming with them to Christmasland.
Manx gets back inside the Wraith and flees with Wayne, who pleads with Manx to stop the car, watching as his mother attempts to chase them on foot. Manx retorts that Vic isn’t deserving of being called a mother. Wayne blames Manx for hurting his family. Manx would normally never allow a child to witness such bloodshed, but he insists that Vic gave him no choice. Manx also still blames Vic for putting him in a coma for nearly a decade. Making his children go hungry. Wayne begs Manx to let him go as he doesn’t want to go to Christmasland. Manx assures Wayne that this is in fact what he wanted, which is why he told Manx where to find them. Wayne will be free of violence and drinking in Christmasland.
Vic gets on her bike and chases Manx down. She manages to catch up to him. She fires several rounds at the Wraith even as Manx tries to run her off the road. They near an intersection, and he suddenly slams on his brakes, though Vic continues and is run over by the Hourglass Man. Wayne asks if his mother’s dead. Manx replies that Vic can no longer hurt him.
The Hourglass[]
Wayne wakes up in the back of the Wraith on the road to Christmasland. Manx is aware that he has his phone and tells him to call his mother if that’s what he wants. Wayne calls Vic’s phone, but as Manx suspected, she didn’t answer. Manx tells Wayne that his mother only cares for herself and no one else. Craig's burned and disfigured ghost appears to Wayne and tells him that Vic will come for him. He tells Wayne that he was a friend of his mom’s. Manx proceeds to tell Wayne how he knows what's best for him. Unbeknownst to Manx, Wayne is talking to Craig.
Manx pulls into a junkyard. They have a long journey ahead of them, so he’s making a pit stop. While the scar on Manx’s face is healing, it's still very noticeable. He tells Wayne that he needs to rest. They can sleep and dream of Christmasland. And when the sun rises again, it’ll be like Christmas morning. Manx then tells Wayne to go back to sleep, as he leaves the Wraith to secure the area. Wayne suddenly spits out a tooth covered in blood. He pockets it and notices a butterfly near the Wraith. It flies in through the window, and Wayne, uncharacteristically, rips it to pieces, smiling as he does so.
Manx awakens in the Wraith. His scar has healed. He looks back to Wayne and asks if he has to use the bathroom before they leave. He gets out to open Wayne’s door but is ambushed by Bing, who sprays him with gingerbread smoke. Within seconds, Manx is on the ground and unconscious. Bing proceeds to disrupt the engine of the Wraith before dragging Manx’s body away. Wayne watches from the Wraith as this unfolds. Craig appears and tells Wayne to call his mom again. It’s too dark for Wayne to see exactly where he’s at, but he begs Vic to rescue him, telling her that something is wrong with him, as he killed a butterfly. Vic tells Wayne to keep fighting and that she’ll be there before he knows it.
Cripple Creek[]
Wayne pulls on a loose tooth. He tells Craig that when all his new teeth arrive that Manx said he’d be able to ride the Sleigh coaster. Craig tells Wayne to fight the car. The Wraith wants him to forget, so he has to remember. Craig tells Wayne to remember Vic and that the car is lying to him. What Craig remembers of Vic is that her favorite movie is Jaws. Suddenly, Wayne remembers that his mother’s favorite day is the 4th of July and that she likes having ice cream for breakfast. He asks Craig how he knows his mother. Craig explains that she was his best friend. He then asks about Wayne’s dad. Wayne explains that Lou loves motorcycles and comic books. Wayne checks his tooth again and it’s no longer loose. Craig then asks Wayne where he lives and how well he does in school, hoping that he'll be able to hold on to himself long enough to be rescued.
Wayne sleeps in the back of the Wraith. His transformation continues. Craig wakes him up and tells him to remember his life. However, Wayne is getting worse. He proceeds to spit out three teeth. Bing lifts the hood to the Wraith, but then notices Wayne inside, who is noticeably ill. Wayne cries out for his mom, explaining to Bing that he and Manx are the ones responsible for his pain, not Vic. Bing slams the hood of the Wraith down, realizing that Manx is a liar.
Bing brings Manx back outside and puts him in the Wraith and tells him that soon there will be two less monsters in the world. Wayne stands outside of the Wraith, unfazed by the ordeal. Almost in a trance. Bing slams the Wraith door shut and goes to turn on the controls for the compactor. He tells Wayne to find the police and tells them that his mother is Vic McQueen. Hearing her name snaps Wayne back to reality and he replies that her favorite movie is Jaws. Bing wants Wayne to also tell Vic that he’s sorry and that they won’t have to worry about Charlie Manx anymore. Bing turns on the compactor, turns up the pressure on the gas tank and throws it in the back with Manx. Wayne laughs from outside the Wraith as Manx pleads for help.
After Bing falls asleep in the Wraith, Wayne stops the compactor from crushing the Wraith and wakes Manx up and frees him of his restraints. Bing awakens just as Manx plugs the ignition coil back up to the Wraith. Bing stumbles out the passenger seat and crawls away. However, the Wraith starts back up and Manx is rejuvenated and spry. He tells Wayne to get in the car. Craig instructs him to run, but Wayne gets inside nonetheless and the door locks behind him. Wayne instantly realizes he made a mistake. Craig assures him Vic will come for him.
Chris McQueen[]
Manx pulls over at the Sleigh House and exits the Wraith, taking in the scenery. He lets Wayne out and tells him to hang his bat-like ornament. Wayne, in the time between the scrapyard and Sleigh House, has grown fangs and become more monstrous. Wayne then runs into the woods. Maggie slowly approaches Wayne from behind as he hangs his ornament on a tree branch. She calls out to him. He bares his fangs and runs off into the trees. Maggie calls out to him, but he doesn’t answer. Lou then finds Wayne in the woods and hugs him. And for that moment, Wayne appears to be human again. He then bites Lou in the shoulder and runs off laughing. Wayne then emerges from the woods and gets into the back of the Wraith.
Welcome to Christmasland[]
Wayne arrives in Christmasland in the backseat of the Wraith. He is welcomed by the other children, who dispute which cruel game to play first — "Stick the Blind," "Cops and Robbers," or "Carve the Goose." Manx assures the kids that there will be plenty of time for games after Millie gives Wayne the tour, but Mike informs him that Millie isn’t around, so Manx personally gives Wayne a tour of Christmasland.
Manx takes Wayne to the costume shop and tells him to pick a costume. Wayne appears to take interest in the astronaut costume, and he persuades Wayne to pick it, informing him of how he can nearly touch the stars from the Sleigh coaster. In addition, Manx informs him that there aren’t any bedtimes at Christmasland and that he can stay up and play games as much as he wants. Manx gifts Wayne with a brand new pair of scissors but tells him that he must first make his arrival official by signing his name in the book. Wayne writes his first name but is hesitant to write McQueen. So Charlie coaches him into writing Manx — Wayne Manx.
Wayne and Millie accompany Manx to confront Vic, who found a way into Christmasland. Manx claims that Wayne is happy at Christmasland. Vic tries to convince Wayne to join her, but instead, he tells her that Wayne McQueen isn’t his name. Manx swears that all his children are happy, but Vic reveals that it was Millie who told her about the faltering veil, which allowed her access to Christmasland. Manx suggests that they let Wayne choose, and he chooses to stay in Christmasland.
Wayne spots Vic and runs into the Eternal Maze. He wants to play a game with Vic. She says that he can play NBA 2K at home, but Wayne has no desire to leave Christmasland. Vic reminds him that in Christmasland, there isn’t a 4th of July, meaning no fireworks. She calls him Bats, which angers him. He tells Vic that isn’t his name and accuses her of always leaving him, even when he was good. Vic tells Wayne that she loves him and that she’ll always be there for him. She pulls Wayne close and hugs him, though he takes this opportunity to stab her with a pair of scissors, exclaiming that he won Scissors for the Drifter.
Vic finds Wayne standing near the gates. She calls out to him: "Bruce Wayne McQueen!" She disarms him of his scissors and forcefully takes him away. He demands that Vic let him go, even calling out to Manx for help. He tells Vic that he hates her and that she’s a monster, to which she replies that she’s his mother. The lights at Christmasland then shut off, with nothing left to light the Inscape but the flames created by the explosions. Vic then tells Wayne that Christmas is over.
Bats[]
Wayne points out that she’s bleeding, and Vic introduces a new game called "Find the Triumph." She tells Wayne that if they find it before anyone else, they can go for a fast ride.
Wayne spots the Triumph. Vic sits him in front of her and starts the bike. She rides onto the Shorter Way. Wayne makes mention of the bats inside her Bridge. Vic tells him that all the bats are his friends. Vic arrives at Sleigh House and drops Wayne off with Lou. Despite being brought back home, Wayne is still very much a monster, lunging at Tabitha.
While Lou restrains Wayne, he starts to hear children screaming. Wayne says that it’s Christmasland and runs off. They find him humming Christmas carols and staring at his ornament. Tabitha informs Lou that some people believe that souls can get trapped inside an object. Lou recalls Maggie’s Tiles saying "WHEN SOULS FALL." It must’ve been referring to the ornaments. Lou grabs Wayne while Tabitha smashes his ornament, which appears to cause him pain initially.
Lou comforts Wayne as he pukes uncontrollably whilst Tabitha breaks the remaining ornaments. Lou tells her to stop as he fears that she’s hurting Wayne, but Tabitha believes this to be the only way to save him.
Wayne has returned to normal and greets his mother as she returns from Christmasland with Maggie after stopping Manx. One month later, Vic, Lou, and Wayne have moved back into their home in Colorado. Vic catches Wayne trying to hide his food in his sleeve and says to him that he needs to eat. He tells her to let him go while holding a fork in his hand threateningly. Lou says that it’s alright and tells Wayne to clear his plate.
Wayne sneaks into the kitchen during the late hours of the night and eats sugar. He says: "Sugar for dinner is fun." Vic tells him to put the sugar down and come to bed. He apologizes and jumps into her arms. Before sending him off to bed, Vic and Wayne brush their teeth. Lou finds them in the bathroom and tells Vic to come to bed when she’s done. Wayne spits out a mouthful of blood in the sink. As Vic tucks him into bed, he asks if he’s going to be okay. She assures him that he will be. Wayne asks if she ever got better after Manx hurt her. She promises that she did and that he will as well.
Wayne goes to sleep and has a nightmare of mutilated animals, his father dead on the kitchen floor, and his mother’s head hanging on Charlie Manx’s tree. Wayne gets dressed and sneaks out the house while they sleep.
Wayne rides his bike to Sleigh House, where he finds Millie feeding on deer. He tells Millie that he wants to go back to Christmasland, but she hasn’t found a way to return and has been forced to live in the woods. He asks Millie what was it like to live in Christmasland. It was wonderful by her account. She was the boss of the kids, she had all the candy she could eat, and she had anything she ever wanted. But now, she has to live outside and hunt for food. Not to mention that Vic killed her father. The Real World is lonesome. Wayne advises her to break her ornament in order to turn back into a regular kid so that maybe she can be adopted. However, Millie doesn’t want to be weak and ordinary. She asks if Wayne wants to grow up, which he doesn’t. Most of the adults he knows are miserable and tired. Millie intends to keep her ornament and rebuild Christmasland;. S she’s going to bring back all the kids one-by-one and asks for Wayne’s help. Vic arrives in search of Wayne. Millie fears that Vic will try to kill her or break her ornament, so she runs off, but not before telling Wayne to remember her. Vic calls out to Wayne and he comes out from behind the wall of bricks. He asks how she knew he would be there. Vic doesn’t know. She simply had a feeling.
After discovering that Manx’s body turned up in the lake along with the Wraith, Vic, Maggie, Lou, Wayne, Tabitha, and Linda, gathered at the scrapyard to watch the Wraith get compacted after Manx was cremated. Wayne appears saddened at the demise of the Wraith.
Wayne draws a picture of himself and Millie at Christmasland. Vic and Lou enter hos room, and he hides the picture under his pillow. Wayne asks when they are going home. Lou informs him that they’ll be in Haverhill for a while. Wayne claims to miss his friends, but Vic knows that he misses Christmasland. Admittedly, she used to miss Charlie Manx. She thought that chasing him was fun. She then notices the picture under the pillow. He reluctantly agrees to allow her to see the picture of him and Millie. Wayne believes that there’s something wrong with him. Vic tells him that it’s okay to feel that way. She knows the feeling. It’s why she chased after Manx, drank too much, and why she ran away from them. Vic makes a promise that they won’t run away anymore and that they won’t pretend to feel okay when they don't.
